Nizral shampoo 2% Ketoconazole is often prescribed for the treatment of fungal infections of the scalp and sebbhoreic dermatitis. It also has anti androgenic properties and can be used in conjunction with other medications in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. If the use of topical preparations is required, Nizral shampoo 2% Ketoconazole is particularly effective when used in conjunction with Minoxidil 5% solution.

Nizral 2% Ketoconazole is able to remove fatty sebum deposits from the scalp. These fatty deposits can clog the hair follicles preventing/reducing the nutritional supply to the scalp. Also, Nizral shampoo 2% Ketoconazole appears to actually prevent the conversion of testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is known that this conversion to dht can cause the hair follicle to fall out and die. In one study, using a small group of test subjects, Nizral shampoo 2% was shown to produce hair growth results similar to 2% minoxidil used once daily . In a larger group test, it was shown to increase the number of hairs in the anagen (growth) phase and to increase the hair shaft diameter. Even after it has been rinsed off, the effects of Nizral 2% shampoo are long lasting and its active ingredient works for several days. Daily application is, therefore, unnecessary, making this product very cost effective.

dosage/administration
the hair should be wet thoroughly. Nizral should then be applied generously and lathered. Leave in contact with the scalp for 3 - 5 minutes before rinsing. The product should be used daily for 14 days and thereafter every 3 - 4 days.

side effects
side effects arising from the use of medical preparations can affect people in different
ways . The following conditions are known to be associated with the use of this medicine. However, this does not mean that people using this medicine will experience one, or a number of these conditions, indeed, these side effects rarely arise from the use of this product :

Itching (pruritus).
Burning sensation.
Dry hair.
Oily hair.
Allergic inflammation of the skin ( contact dermatitis ).
Rarely, discolouration of the hair ( only affecting grey/chemically damaged hair ).
Discolouration of hair ( rare and mainly affecting chemically-damaged or grey hair ).

warnings and precautions.
Please take note of the following :

This medicine should not be used where an allergy exists to one or any of its ingredients.
Do not use on broken or inflamed skin.
Avoid contact with the eyes. if Nizral shampoo 2% comes into contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
Cease use of the product if a rash appears.

No drug interactions of any importance have been identified with Ketoconazole when used as a shampoo.
