composition
Each film coated Fincar tablet contains 5mg of finasteride.
Fincar is available in blister packs of 10 tablets.
description
Fincar is a potent inhibitor of enzyme 5-alpha reductase.
elevated levels of 5-alpha reductase have been shown to be
responsible for increased levels of DHT ( Dihydrotestosterone
) which in turn can lead to male pattern baldness ( androgenetic
alopecia ). the overall concentration of dht is decreased
by approximately 60% in patients taking 1mg of finasteride
daily.
indications
Fincar is an effective treatment for male pattern baldness
( androgenetic alopecia ) for men suffering from mild to moderate
hair loss of the vertex and anterior mid-scalp areas. Recent
test results have shown that Fincar is also successful in
reversing a degree of frontal hair loss. this point is of
particular interest to men disappointed in the limited ability
of minoxidil to stimulate frontal hair growth.
dosage / administration
Fincar has exactly the same active ingredients as finpecia
( i.e. finasteride ), the only difference being it is manufactured
as a 5mg tablet rather than a 1mg tablet. the desired 1mg
dose, therefore, is obtained by splitting the pills. It is
advisable to split the pills into 4 equal parts rather than
5 as this can be quite difficult to guage, leaving 4 doses
of approximately 1.25mg. The 1.25mg dose will not make any
positive or negative difference in results compared to a 1mg
dose. Although it is more inconvenient to administer a dosage
by this method, the big advantage is cost. exactly the same
results are obtained taking Fincar compared to taking finpecia
for a fraction of the cost.
side effects
side effects from the use of Fincar are generally mild. these
include decreased libido and impotence in 2% of users ( an
insignificant number as 1.3% of men who took the placebo during
clinical trials experienced the same problems ),
and decreased volume of ejaculate. these side effects disappear
if Fincar is no longer taken. Interestingly, they also tend
to disappear in most men who continue to take Fincar.
warnings and precautions
Fincar should never be taken by women. It is also possible
for finasteride to be absorbed through the skin, therefore
it is inadvisable for women to handle the tablets especially
if they are crushed or broken. if a woman is pregnant or plans
to become pregnant, any contact with finasteride by a developing
male fetus may result in abnormalities of the genitalia. Fincar
should also not be taken by men who are actively planning
a family.
A blood test called PSA ( Prostrate-Specific Antigen ) for
the screening of prostrate cancer can be affected by taking
Fincar. If a PSA test is undertaken, it is imperative that
your doctor is informed that you are taking Fincar.
Also, medical advice should be taken if there is any history
of liver disease, as finasteride is metabolised extensively
in the liver.
